Mike previously worked for IBM, rising to the level of Distinguished Engineer—an executive-level technical position. During his 30-year tenure, Mike led the IBM product team that developed the first commercial linguistic search engine in 1989, and pioneered IBM’s successful search marketing program in 2001. Mike introduced automatic categorization technology in 2001 and multifaceted search technology in 2003 to ibm.com. He also led the integration of ibm.com’s site search technologies and served as product manager for IBM’s search and text analytics products.

Mike is the co-author of the best-selling book Search Engine Marketing, Inc. (along with fellow search marketing expert Bill Hunt), now in its Third Edition. Mike is also the author of the acclaimed digital marketing book, Do It Wrong Quickly: How the Web Changes the Old Marketing Rules, named one of the best business books of 2007 by the Miami Herald. His newest book is Outside-In Marketing: Using Big Data to Guide Your Content Marketing with co-author James Mathewson. Mike is also the founder of the popular digital marketing blog Biznology®.
Mike keynotes conferences worldwide on digital marketing for marketers, public relations specialists, market researchers, product managers, and technologists.
